Open Day: Meet Bowland Pennine Mountain Rescue team at their Lancashire base
An open day and charity raffle will be held to raise awareness of the vital service and raise funds to keep it operational.
Bowland Pennine Mountain Rescue Team is holding an Open Day and Raffle on Sunday, July 5.

The event will take place at Smelt Mill, near Dunsop Bridge in the Trough of Bowland from 11am until 4pm.
The Bowland Pennine Mountain Rescue Team (BPMRT) is a volunteer-staffed charity that provides emergency search and rescue services across Lancashire and surrounding areas. Operating on call 24/7, they assist statutory services like the Lancashire Police and the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS).
This can include missing person searches including deploying trackers, search dogs, and equipment across both remote moors and urban districts. Technical rescues include conducting stretcher evacuations, steep ground/crag rescues, and swiftwater/flood operations. They also provide emergency medical care, providing advanced first aid and stabilizing casualties in locations that standard ambulances cannot reach. Transporting paramedics and helping vulnerable people or stranded commuters during heavy snow or flooding.
Because they receive no direct government funding, they rely entirely on unpaid volunteers and public donations to operate.
The purpose of the day is to raise awareness of the vital work carried out by the Bowland Pennine Mountain Rescue Team and to showcase the facilities and capabilities at the Smelt Mill base.
As part of the event, a raffle will be held with a range of generously donated prizes, including:
- Family activity passes
- Outdoor equipment and vouchers
- Navigation and climbing courses
- Scrambling days
- PT sessions
- Outdoor retail vouchers and equipment
All proceeds go towards helping the Team and Smelt Mill remain operational.
