19 objections to new Penwortham care home plan - decision to be made next week by South Ribble Borough Council

If built, the care home could create 60 local jobs.

Planning bosses will decide next week whether to allow a 66-bedroomed care home to be built in Penwortham.

They say it will "make an important contribution towards meeting identified needs" for both general residential and dementia care, and will create between 50 and 60 full time equivalent jobs.

How would it look?

The proposed two storey building would be ‘H’ shaped with a maximum length of 56 metres by 43m. The roof would have a maximum ridge height of 8.85m.

The proposed car park would provide 26 spaces, include two disabled spaces to the immediate front of the building and six bays with electric charging points to the southwest of the parking area, two motorcycle bays and a cycle store. There would be an ambulance drop off/pick up area to the frontage in addition to the parking provision and vehicular and pedestrian access would be off Saxon Place.

Objections

South Ribble Borough Council (SRBC) has received 19 letters of representation over the proposal, highlighting:

- Worries over insufficient parking that could lead to overspill on Saxon and Sibley Drives.

- Concerns that the access road serving the site is relatively narrow and already experiences high traffic volumes, particularly during peak morning and evening periods.

- Worries over the scale, height and massing impact on outlook, visual amenity and potential sunlight/daylight impacts on neighbouring houses.

- Concerns over noise and regular ambulance attendances.

- Flooding and drainage.

- Cumulative impacts on local infrastructure, services, traffic and the natural environment.
