Jobs on offer at Blackpool company behind Jammie Dodgers, Wagon Wheels and Party Rings

The Lancashire bakery behind some of the UK’s most iconic biscuits has opened up applications for it’s 2026 Engineering Apprenticeship Programme.

Fox’s Burton’s Companies, which produces Fox’s Chocolatey, Jammie Dodgers and Party Rings, wants to continue paving the way for young people to establish lifelong careers in manufacturing.

Launching this National Apprenticeship Week, the programme will see two apprentices placed at the historic FBC Blackpool bakery, where they will train on live production lines, while studying towards a Level 3 Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician Qualification at Blackpool and The Fylde College.

The apprenticeship will equip learners with core principles and practical skills of maintenance and operations engineering, including mechanical, electrical, automation and process control systems, as well as continuous improvement and quality management in the food industry.

Marco Serra, Chief People and Organisation Officer at FBC said: “Apprenticeships are one of the most effective ways to build a career in manufacturing, which is why we’re proud to continue investing into this pathway for people to join FBC.

“Our apprentices will get to build skills on the job, while learning with Blackpool and The Fylde College, one of our trusted partners. These are practical, respected careers and they play an important role in keeping British manufacturing moving.”

‘Opened up incredible opportunites’

Harrison, a third-year apprentice at FBC added: “My experience as an apprentice at FBC has opened up incredible opportunities for growth, both in my career and as an individual. I’ve developed strong teamwork and communication skills, along with technical knowledge which will carry me forward as I progress in my career. I would recommend this route into engineering to anyone who is interested. There is so much to learn, it’s practical and you gain valuable experience while earning as you learn.”

Simon Hughes, Executive Principal at Blackpool and The Fylde College, said: “We are delighted to be launching this new partnership – especially during National Apprenticeship Week 2026. Fox’s Burton’s Companies has long historic links to Blackpool and working with employers like this is essential to ensuring our apprentices can develop the ‘work ready’ skills needed for current and future roles in their chosen sector. This programme offers a clear pathway into engineering manufacturing which, allied to the structured and high-quality technical learning provided at B&FC, helps to support progression into skilled employment and to meet local workforce needs.”

Local workforce

In Blackpool, FBC employs around 430 people from the local area, with more than 39 per cent of the workforce having worked the bakery for more than 10 years.

The programme is open to anyone with an interest is engineering, whether starting out or looking to change careers. Applicants must be 18 by the time the programme begins in September and will also need at least 5 GCSEs at 8 or above, including English and Maths.
