Wells pens new deal
All-rounder Luke Wells has signed a new three-year contract with the Red Rose. Since joining in 2021 from Sussex, the 35-year-old has established himself as a key man - scoring 5,708 runs and taking 109 wickets across 148 appearances. Wells, scorer of 11 Lancashire centuries, penned fresh terms before the 2026 campaign commenced.
Wells said: “I have loved my time at Emirates Old Trafford and feel I’ve developed my game across all formats here. There’s a strong belief within the squad about what we can achieve since Crofty has taken over as Head Coach, and I’m excited to play my part in pushing for success over the next few years.”
Hailing his character, Director of Cricket Performance Mark Chilton added: “He’s also a very good person to have in the dressing room - a real team man who is never shy about speaking up for the cause. Signing Luke to a new deal wasn’t a difficult decision for us to make.”
CEO Gidney to retire
Chief Executive Daniel Gidney will bring his 14-year association with the club to an end this summer, when he retires. As per Lancashire’s announcement, his decision was made earlier this year to give the club ‘nearly a full year to identify and appoint a successor for 2027.’
Gidney said: “It has been an honour and a privilege to serve as Chief Executive of Lancashire Cricket for 14 years. Throughout my tenure, I have been acutely aware of my responsibility as a custodian of the Club and have always aimed to leave it in a stronger position than the one I inherited.
“This has been a big decision, but I feel it is the right time to hand over the reins, leaving the Club in a strong financial position to build on. I have loved being part of the Red Rose for all these years and am proud of the players, coaches, and all staff - past and present - for their hard work and commitment, and for allowing me to be their teammate for such a long time.”
Bumble ‘flabbergasted’ by snub
According to the Daily Mail, Lancashire have knocked back David Lloyd’s offer to join the club’s board. The 79-year-old told Mail Sport he is ‘totally embarrassed, flabbergasted, dismayed’ after receiving no invite to an interview. It has been reported that Bumble is part of a ‘rebel group’, who are concerned about the direction and running of the club. Fellow ex-players, Paul Allott, Michael Atherton and Neil Fairbrother are also involved.
