The 35-year-old Welsh shot-stopper was confirmed to have left PNE this summer by manager Paul Heckingbottom, after four years at the club.

He made 23 competitive appearances for North End, including eight last season following an injury to Daniel Iversen.

He has now taken to Instagram to post a goodbye message to the club.

Cornell wrote: “Thank you, Preston North End.

“After four great years at this football club, the time has come for a new chapter.

“I'm incredibly grateful for the memories, the experiences and, most importantly, the people I've met along the way.

“It's been a privilege to represent this club and to be part of such a special group of players, staff and supporters.

“A huge thank you to everyone at PNE who has supported me throughout my time here.

“I'll always be grateful for the opportunity and will look back on my time at Preston with a lot of pride.

“I'm now looking forward to the next chapter.”

Cornell’s former clubs include Swansea City, Oldham Athletic, Northampton Town, Ipswich Town and Peterborough United.
