Graham Alexander picked up his first win as Preston boss at the seventh attempt on Saturday, with his spirited side defeating Southampton 1-0 thanks to Jordan Thompson’s rocket of a first half volley.

Preston were fully deserving of the win over the promotion-chasing Saints, with Deepdale left bouncing at the full-time whistle as Alexander revealed he felt 'relief' in the aftermath.

But it wasn't just North End's players, staff and supporters left delighted with the victory, but Zedan, who has had confirmed discussions about buying the club, shared his reaction as well.

Taking to his Instagram story on his account, @afz74, Zedan shared a still image of the game at the full-time whistle, writing over the top of the picture: "Finally! Let's go.. Up the Whites.."

Zedan also shared the club's post celebrating the victory, Preston's first clean sheet since February.

The latest on Amr Zedan buying PNE

Zedan, a business mogul in several fields including energy and horse-racing, has had confirmed discussions about buying Preston from the Hemmings family, who have owned the club since 2010.

In an official update given on 26 January this year, chairman Ian Penrose said: "I can confirm that we have had discussions with the US-born Saudi businessman Amr Zedan, who we respect highly.

"Mr Zedan is one of a number of successful individuals or organisations that have made enquiries about the club. Specific comments on any approach are inappropriate at this stage."

Zedan has posted about the club on his Instagram page before, and also attended a game at Deepdale in person in April, a 1-1 draw with Queen's Park Rangers.

However, a spokesperson for Zedan said that discussions had started in early December before stalling at the turn of the year.

The latest update from Penrose on the proposed takeover came on August 14, which read: "In the autumn of 2025, the club stated that it had begun the process of actively searching for a new owner of PNE, a process that we considered could take up to two years.

"In January 2026, I updated that we had received a number of initial tentative approaches, and since then we have worked diligently to progress matters.

"I can confirm that we are in negotiations with parties who have made offers to buy PNE on terms that are acceptable to the Hemmings family. Whilst we would like to be able to provide a running commentary and more details for our fans, for legal and regulatory reasons, we are prevented from doing so.

"The sale of a football club is a lengthy and complex process, involving legal, financial and commercial due diligence, and the need for the buyer to satisfy regulatory obligations and submissions, including a funded two-year business plan.”

It continues: “We have seen this week with events at Derby County that such a process is not straightforward.

"The club and the potential new owners are very conscious of the need to conclude matters promptly in order to provide certainty for many reasons. Internally, we are keeping a clear divide between our football operations and the transaction, in order to minimise distraction.

"Whilst certain aspects, including regulatory approvals, are outside of our control, we will continue to work hard to deliver a successful outcome for the club and fans."

Graham Alexander's son buzzing with victory

Zedan was far from the only person to bask in the glow of the victory on social media, with Graham Alexander's son sharing his reaction as well.

Calum Alexander took to X to say: "MASSIVE! my dad has just managed my boyhood club at Deepdale and won. Couldn’t be f****** prouder, up them f****** whites."

Preston remain bottom of the league but now have eight points to their name which has reduced the gap to safety from nine to seven points.
