We take in the wider picture of change, not just in the city centre, but in the surrounding areas. There’s some surprising images that will transport you back to a time when life was less of a rush and much more simple.

17. Old Preston
Long before the modern Royal Preston Hospital was opened, the townsfolk of Preston attended the Preston Royal Infirmary in Deepdale. Here we see the main building of the medical facility - pictured in 1958 Photo: Archive

This image doesn't do the building justice as it is a side view of Christ Church in Fishergate Hill, Preston. The imposing frontage towers are all that remain of this once magnificent structure. The church was consecrated in 1836 and closed in 1970. It was demolished apart from the tower section and converted into a chapel. This is now connected to County Hall Photo: Archive

20. Old Preston
Here we see the grand and imposing home of Thomas Birchall - Ribbleton Hall. The Hall went through numerous uses after Birchall's death. In the 1920s it housed a private boys' preparatory school and during the Second World War it was commandeered by the military. It was eventually demolished by the end of 1955 and is now the site of Grange Park Photo: Archive
