Watch as massive Chinook helicopter flies through Lancashire countryside
The UK has between 51 and 54 Chinooks in active service.
A huge military Chinook helicopter has been spotted in Lancashire.
The heavy lift helicopter - famous for its twin propellors - was seen flying over the River Lune in Lancaster this afternoon, close to the Army’s Halton training camp in Low Road.
The camp is not known to have a permanent helicopter base, but the flights could be connected to the work of the Army’s Adventurous Training Group, based at the facilty. This accommodates hundreds of students undertaking military leadership and outdoor training.
Today’s sighting comes after reports of a Chinook flying close to the Lancashire Constabulary’s headquarters in Hutton last night, with many locals commenting on social media that it is a regular training visit.
The Ministry of Defence has been contacted for more information.

The Chinook
With a triple hook external load system, internal cargo winch, roller conveyor fit and large reserves of power available, the aircraft can be used to lift a wide variety of complex under-slung or internal stores including vehicles.
It can carry up to 55 troops and/or up to 10 tonnes of freight. Secondary roles include Search and Rescue as well as providing support to a wide variety of specialist tasks.
The UK currently has an active inventory of about 51 to 54 Boeing Chinook helicopters operated by the Royal Air Force.
