New speed limit to take effect on part of A6 at Galgate from August 31

Lancashire County Council has approved a revised Speed Limit Order setting a 50mph limit on Main Road (A6) at Galgate, due to come into force on August 31.

Lancashire County Council has approved changes to the speed limit on a section of the A6 south of Lancaster.

As previously reported in May, the authority applied to amend the Speed Limit Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. That amendment has now been signed off, with a new order replacing an earlier one.

The approved order revokes the Lancashire County Council (A6 Lancaster, Preston and Wyre) (Revocation, 40mph and 50mph Speed Limits) Order 2024. In its place, it introduces a 50mph speed limit on Main Road (A6), Galgate.

The affected section runs from a point 150 metres south of its junction with the centreline of Green Lane, Ellel, to a point 292 metres north of its junction with the centreline of Tanhouse, Galgate. The order is due to come into force on August 31.

In a separate public notice, Lancashire County Council also made a Traffic Regulation Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 affecting waiting on Golgotha Road in Bowerham.

The Lancashire County Council (Lancaster Area) (On Street Parking Places, Prohibition and Restriction of Waiting) Consolidation Order 2009 for Golgotha Road has been revoked. A prohibition of waiting is to be introduced on two sections: the north east side from the junction with the centreline of Coulston Road for 54 metres in a north westerly direction, and the south west side from the same junction for 52.5 metres in a north westerly direction.

That order also comes into force on August 31.

Copies of the orders and related documents can be inspected during normal office hours at Lancaster City Council, Town Hall, Dalton Square, Lancaster, LA1 1PJ, and at Lancashire County Council, County Hall, Fishergate, Preston, PR1 8XJ, as well as on the county council’s website.
