Two kittens were found dead with “horrific” injuries consistent with being “thrown against a wall” in Leyland.

The six-month-old cats were found dead, but still warm, by a member of the public in the middle of Seven Stars Road at around 8.45am on Tuesday.

Both of them were covered in blood and had missing eyes and head injuries.

They were immediately taken to a local vet who alerted the RSPCA.

X-rays showed the kittens had suffered severe blunt force trauma - consistent with being thrown against a wall - and had snapped necks and damaged skulls.

The vet said it was his opinion that the injuries had been caused deliberately and not as a result of the kittens having been involved in a road traffic accident or attacked by another animal.

The sex of both of the kittens, one black and one brown, is unknown.

RSPCA Animal Rescue Officer Adam Wormwell, who has carried out enquiries in the local area, said: “It seems someone has deliberately ended the lives of these two young kittens by inflicting the most appalling violence on them.

“We are appealing to anyone who saw what happened or has information that could help our investigation to come forward.

“Unfortunately neither kitten was microchipped, so we don’t know who they belonged to or where they might have come from.”

He added: “It’s a horrific incident which has greatly upset everyone involved, and I’d particularly like to thank the kind member of the public who found them and took what action they could.”
