EG on The Move want to open petrol station and car wash in this Chorley location

Stewart Longton Caravans Ltd is now based in Friday Street.

A new petrol station and car wash could soon open in Chorley - if plans are given the green light.

EG on the Move - founded by the Blackburn-based Issa Brothers - are seeking permission for a filling station, car wash and associated infrastructure following the demolition of existing buildings at the Stewart Longton Caravans site in Bengal Street.

The site - on a main commuter stretch through Chorley - is described as ‘former caravan repair/sales and storage’, that has been vacant since March. Stewart Longton Caravans Ltd is now based in Friday Street.

The site redevelopment proposal would also offer a retail store of approximately 400m2, eight parking bays, as well as EV charging stations.

A supporting statement submitted to Chorley Borough Council says: “The vision for the proposed development scheme is to provide a new PFS (petrol filling station), on a currently underutilised brownfield site. Located in an existing urban area, along a well-trafficked A-road, the proposals reducing the need for out-of-direction travel to access fuel, convenience retail and associated facilities.”

Layout

As part of the proposed development the PFS forecourt and retail unit will be located to the centre of the site, with the parking provision and EV bays to the north and car washing facilities to the west, inclusive of a rollover car wash, two jet washing bays, two valet and two servicing bays.

Access

It’s proposed that the existing disused access junction off Hollinshead Street would be closed as part of the proposed development. The remaining existing access junctions off the A6 Bengal Street and Hollinshead Street will be retained to serve the site, with access only off the A6 to the east of the site and egress to the south of the site onto Hollinshead Street.

Noise

EG On The Move commissioned a Noise Impact Assessment for the proposal, which has recommended a series of restrictions on operations, if planning permission is granted. These include:

- Goods deliveries/collection: it is considered that access is limited to between 7am and 11pm.

- Petrol tanker offloading: it is considered that access is limited to between 7am and 11pm .

- Car washing facilities: it is considered that a restriction of use on the car washing facilities, including manual jet wash and automatic carwash on-site be imited to between 7am and 11pm.

A decision will be made by Chorley Borough Council in coming weeks.
