"Such a lovely teacher" - readers remember Penwortham Priory stalwart as her death is announced
A Penwortham teacher has been remembered fondly by Post readers, following the announcement of her death.
Sylvia Fenwick, who spent most of her career working in the science department Penwortham Priory High School (now Penwortham Priory Academy), died on January 14, 10 months after husband Geoff.
Mrs Fenwick (nee Gerrard) taught at Penwortham from 1959, shortly after qualifying as a teacher. She stayed until 1962, when she travelled to Uganda and worked at Nakasero School, and where she met husband Geoff. She returned to Priory in the mid-1970s, where she remained until her retirement in 1999, commuting daily from Southport and making Lab 2 her home.

“Sylvia was immensely proud of the students she taught and always enjoyed hearing about what they went on to achieve. Until very recently, she particularly enjoyed joining her earliest pupils for ‘Class of 59’ lunches.”
