Sarah gets a little help from her colleagues at Leyland Trucks to raise money for Rosemere
When bowel cancer struck her husband, Sarah was determined to give back to those who helped the most, with the help of her colleagues at Leyland Trucks.
Staff at Leyland Trucks made sure colleague Sarah Schofield, who works in the Materials Department, received a ‘Helping Hand’ when she began fundraising for Rosemere Cancer Foundation in thanks for treatment her husband Michael is receiving at Rosemere Cancer Centre.

Michael was diagnosed with Stage 3 bowel cancer last year. Since then, Sarah’s departmental colleagues have organised a bake sale, which raised £535.25, and Sarah took part in April’s Rosemere Cancer Foundation Walk in the Dark, an annual 11-mile night-time trek from Chorley and South Ribble Hospital to the Royal Preston Hospital, where the cancer centre is based.
Sarah set up an online fundraising page for walk sponsorship. Donations to it, along with funds from the bake sale and a generous donation from Leyland Trucks’ Helping Hand, a charity run by the company’s employees, meant Sarah was able to gift £5,588 to Rosemere Cancer Foundation.
Sarah, of Charnock Richard, said: “Thank you to everyone who has supported me in my fundraising for Rosemere Cancer Foundation. My work colleagues have been especially generous.”
Sue Swire, fundraising manager for Rosemere Cancer Foundation, who visited Leyland Trucks to accept the donation on behalf of the charity, said: “Our thanks to Sarah and her colleagues for this fantastic donation, which will go towards projects to support local bowel cancer patients.”
Rosemere Cancer Foundation works to bring world class cancer treatments and services to cancer patients from throughout Lancashire and South Cumbria being treated at not only Rosemere Cancer Centre, which is the region’s specialist cancer treatment and radiotherapy centre, but also at another eight local hospital cancer units across the two counties, including that Chorley and South Ribble Victoria Hospital.
The charity funds cutting-edge equipment, clinical research, staff training and innovative services and initiatives that the NHS cannot afford in order to make patients’ cancer journey more effective, comfortable and stress-free.
