£4,300 raised for Jamie Marvill as Preston North End captain attends charity match and donates shirt
Fulwood Amateurs hosted the game on Sunday in support of the 27-year-old
Last Sunday’s charity match at Fulwood Amateurs saw £4,300 raised for Jamie Marvill.

All proceeds will go towards the care and support of the 27-year-old, who has been fighting cancer since December 2023 - it is now terminal. Around 700 people turned up to watch Marvis XI play North West Community Stars FC, with PNE legend and current Bradford City boss, Graham Alexander, taking charge of the former.
North End captain Ben Whiteman also attended, watched the whole game and donated a Preston away shirt, signed by the North End squad. Bidding for the shirt will close at 5pm on Wednesday, 3 June with the money going towards the overall total. Marvill scored a penalty in the last minute which was met with an enormous cheer.

Commenting on NWCS FC’s Facebook post, Marvill said: ‘Incredible group of people whose work definitely doesn’t go unnoticed. Incredibly lucky to be involved in such a special day ❤️❤️ one I’ll cherish forever.’
Jamie’s story
At the age of 24, Marvill was diagnosed with testicular cancer and had a prosthetic fitted after removal. The cancer then spread to his lungs - he was informed by doctors, over the phone, while on holiday with friends in Ibiza.
Marvill went through nine rounds of aggressive chemotherapy to treat the mixed germ cell cancer - a rare form. He also had 14 tumours removed from his lungs but they started to grow back after a couple of weeks.
He then suffered a seizure and was diagnosed with brain cancer, which required major surgery. Marvill has not been able to work since August of last year. You can donate to his GoFundMe page here - more than £19,000 of the £30,000 target has been raised. A fifth of the money raised will go to the Neurological Ward at Royal Preston Hospital.
