Popular community choir Local Vocals to open their first kids choir in Preston next month

A new Preston kids choir “will be the perfect chance for young singers to to build confidence, make new friends and experience the joy of singing together.”

A well known community choir is setting up its own Preston kids choir next month.

Local Vocals, which runs 34 adult choirs across the North of England, has shared its excitement at setting up its first ever children’s choir right here in Preston.

They already have a thriving choir of over one hundred people in Fulwood but say they have often been asked when they are going to start a kids choir.

Encouraged by their Preston members, Local Vocals have decided to launch the choir, which is open to all primary school children, this summer.

The first session will take place on Saturday, June 13 at Fulwood Free Methodist Church from 10.30am until 12pm.

A spokesperson for Local Voices said: “It will be the perfect chance for young singers to build confidence, make new friends and experience the joy of singing together in a fun, high energy session.

“Singing for children is often limited to expensive 1:1 singing lessons or more formal choral, audition-based choirs, so Local Vocals are excited to bring a joyful, inclusive singing experience to any children of primary school age who love music.

“As always with Local Vocals, there are no auditions, no singing alone and no pressure - just a welcoming, fun singing session for every child involved.”

Local Vocals was founded by LIPA graduate Laura Bennett Gornall in 2021 and now has over one thousand members across the North of England who meet weekly to support their aim of doing good for others through the joy of singing.

Since their start five years ago, they have raised over £56k for local charities such as Derian House Children’s Hospice, Lancashire Mind, Rosemere Cancer Foundation and North West Air Ambulance.

Local Vocals also featured in the Lancashire Post just this very week for a very kind thing they did for a couple here in Preston, which you can read more about here.
