Extension plan for Lancashire B&M store - and 6 other new applications this week in East Lancashire

A Lancashire B&M store could soon be getting an extension.

Bosses at the shop in The Peel Centre in Whitebirk Drive, Rishton, have applied to Hyndburn Borough Council for permission for a new 4.8m-high fence - so they can provide an extension to the existing garden centre, including lighting.

Their planning statement says: “As part of the company’s on-going evolution of its business model to meet consumer demands, a small scale extension to the existing external garden centre area is required to support the main ranges of goods sold within the existing garden centre and B&M Store whilst enabling a fuller garden centre product range to be displayed to meet customer requirements.”

Jobs

The proposal is expected to involve capital expenditure of approximately £160,000 and would see an extra three to four part time jobs created.

The garden centre extension will extend to 701 sq.m, providing in total an external garden centre including garden centre storage compound of 1,181 sq.m. No additional landscaping is proposed since the extension will enclose an open, hard surfaced area to the side of the existing store and adjacent to the existing garden centre.

Although 11 car parking spaces will be used to accommodate the extension, the retail park contains over 600 spaces. B&M say it will ‘therefore not give rise to unacceptable traffic conditions nor give rise to a significant traffic impact’.

A decision will be made in coming weeks by planning chiefs at Hyndburn Borough Council.
