Take a trip down memory lane... and perhaps even further to a time before many of us were even born - Preston in 1950.
Some 74 years in the past at this point, it's safe to say that 1950 Preston was a different world entirely, as evidenced by the fact that the majority of our retro archive pictures from that heady era are based around industry, ships, and labourers. And so, to get a glimpse of what life in the city would have looked like back then, take a look at some of our best images from back in the day...

6. Preston Docks c.1950 S.S. Helen Craig sailed twice a week between Preston and Belfast for over 50 years. She was known by countless dockers as 'Th'owd bo'oan bo'at' as she often carried a stinking mass of animal bones from the Belfast abattoirs to the port. It was often said you could tell when she was in dock due to the vast flocks of seagulls and other birds hovering nearby hoping to feed off the maggots and other detritus from the rotting cargo. The Helen Craig was built in Belfast in 1891 and was for many years under the command of Captain Kennedy.
