James Da Costa, Corporate Engagement Partner at Preston based St Catherine’s Hospicesaid: “A huge thank you to the pupils, families and staff at Westholme School who supported our Christmas Challenge with two festive carol services at Blackburn Cathedral, raising a combined total of £1,862.08.

“We rely on fundraising activities like this to help fund the £5m+ gap to keep our core services running and maintain care and compassion for families who are going through what can be the most challenging period of their lives. Well done to all involved your support is greatly appreciated.”

Each year, Westholme School carefully selects a local charity to support during the festive season, ensuring a rotation so that a wide range of organisations benefit over time.

This year they chose to support St Catherine’s Hospice whose specialist care is there to help people enjoy the best possible quality of life, to the end of life.

St Catherine’s Hospice work with patients and their loved ones both at the hospice and in their own homes to help them achieve what is important to them in the time they have.

Hospice care not only focuses on pain management and symptom control; they also offer emotional support and encourage independence at every stage of the journey. Treatment is personalised, and they work with patients and families of loved ones in an environment built on compassion, respect and understanding.

Paul Taylor, Principal of Westholme School, said: “We are incredibly proud of our pupils and grateful to our families for supporting this year’s carol services. The generosity shown will make a meaningful difference to St Catherine’s Hospice and the important work they do locally. Our annual charity tradition allows us to help a variety of community organisations and we are delighted with this year’s outcome.”

The funds raised will contribute to the hospice’s ongoing work, providing compassionate care and support for people with life-limiting illnesses across Lancashire.
