Preston North End make their fourth summer signing with loan deal for Middlesbrough attacker

Middlesbrough attacker has become PNE’s fourth summer signing.

Preston North End have made their latest summer signing with the loan arrival of Middlesbrough’s Delano Burgzorg.

The Dutch attacker has moved to Deepdale on a season-long arrangement, with an option to buy.

Burgzorg follows fellow loanee Jusef Erabi, as well as Alfie Devine and Lee Nicholls, in joining PNE as boss Paul Heckingbottom builds his squad for the new season.

“I'm ready to go and can’t wait to start,” said the Lilywhites’ latest new face.

“I think the club have big ambition and the fans are amazing. Playing in front of them is going to be very exciting.

“I had a good feeling after my first call with the gaffer. He’s ambitious, direct, honest and gave me a good feeling.

“I’m exciting to watch as a player. I like to go one-on-one and make runs in behind defenders. I’m ready to score goals and assist.”

Burgzorg started his career with De Graafschap in the Dutch Eerste Divisie and helped them secure promotion to the Eredivisie in 2018.

He was joined Italian side Spezia the following season and enjoyed more success by winning promotion to Serie A.

The 27-year-old then returned to the Netherlands with Heracles, scoring 11 times in 57 matches before joining Bundesliga club Mainz 05 in January 2022, initially on loan.

That became a permanent deal before they loaned him to Huddersfield Town three years ago.

A move to Middlesbrough followed in June 2024, where he scored eight times in 71 games before joining Bristol City on a half-season loan in January this year.

Heckingbottom added: “I’m really pleased to sign Delano. He provides us with pace and gives us flexibility as well.

“He can play off the left and down the middle and is a good ball carrier. I’m really excited and really pleased that we've got him.

“He's a good personality and is a great addition to the group.”
