“There is no excuse in getting beaten 6-2”: Morecambe manager reflects on Hednesford Town hammering

Morecambe manager reacted after seeing his side concede six goals on Saturday.

Morecambe boss Adam Lakeland said his side were punished for making too many errors and uncharacteristic individual mistakes in their 6-2 defeat at Hednesford Town, writes DEREK QUINN.

The Shrimps went into Saturday’s game on the back of three straight wins but shipped six goals on a disappointing away day to forget.

Jamie Cooke (3), Dylan Mottley-Henry (2) and Jamie Morgan netted against Morecambe, whose replies came via Ruben Curley and Paul Lewis.

Lakeland said: “There were too many errors and they were incredibly ruthless and capitalised on those errors.

“There were more individual errors and poor decisions made today than there have been in our last six or seven games combined - and a lot of those mistakes resulted in the ball being in the back of our net within seconds.

“It was a very difficult game to dissect but there is no excuse in getting beaten 6-2.

“It was very similar to what we have seen on too many occasions away from home unfortunately.

“Up until their first goal I thought we were comfortable, we were in control and moving the ball well.

“I felt our shape was causing them a few issues but then we went and conceded a really soft goal and it all unravelled from there.

“Before the game we had conceded 12 in 14 matches, so to ship six wasn’t like us.

“Some of the individual defending and some of the ways we were turned over leading to the goals was very disappointing.

“We have to make sure we learn from this and bounce back quickly.”
