“It’s obviously been a good run for us”: Morecambe midfielder eyes three points on the road
Morecambe midfielder is targeting another positive result as they hit the road in National League North.
Jake Cain has challenged Morecambe to keep churning out the results as they look to translate their stunning home form into points on the road.
The Shrimps visit Hednesford Town on Saturday as National League North’s seventh and eighth-placed sides do battle.
Hednesford are a point and a position above Morecambe, who made it seven home wins in a row with their 2-0 victory over Scarborough Athletic last weekend.
Marcus Neill and Paul Lewis scored inside the opening quarter of the game as the Shrimps also recorded a sixth consecutive clean sheet at the Halo Aerospace Stadium.
Speaking after that game, Cain said: “It’s obviously been a good run for us, we want to keep it going.
“We’ve got an away game next so that’s going to be a tough game, but we picked up three points last time on the road so we’re hoping we can follow that up on Saturday.”
Three wins in the space of a week - starting with only a second away victory of the season against Merthyr - have catapulted Adam Lakeland’s players up the table from 19th to eighth.
With a third of the season almost completed, they are a point outside the play-offs and only six behind leaders South Shields as they seek an immediate return to non-league’s top flight.
“It’s massive,” Cain said of Morecambe’s winning week.
“Nine points out of nine, we’ve closed the gap to the top.
“We’re not where we want to be yet because we want to be top of the league and it’s a long season.
“We started off quite slowly but we’re getting there now and hopefully we can keep picking up more points.
“It’s very tight, I think there’s only a handful of points between the relegation zone and the play-offs.
“We’ve just got to focus on every game, pick up maximum points and then we’ll see where we are come the end of the season.
“Every game’s massive. We’ve got to go into each game like it’s the hardest game of the season.
“We’ve got to take Saturday first and then we’ll see where we’re at.
“It’s going to be a difficult game but we’re looking to take the three points.”
