After club football was put on hold for an extended three-week break in September, the November international break will soon be upon us and will begin following Preston’s home game with Southampton on Saturday.

Thompson has been called up by Northern Ireland manager Michael O’Neil for their two Nations League fixtures.

They will take on Ukraine at home on Saturday, November 14, before making the trip to Hungary on Tuesday, November 17.

Thompson will be hoping to add to his 39 caps, especially as he didn’t during his last call-up. The 29-year-old was an unused substitute for three of the four games, and didn’t make the squad for the other.

In fact, his last appearance for his country came in March 2025 as a late substitute in a 5-1 defeat to Sweden.

Northern Ireland currently sit on top of Group F and are undefeated in their first four matches, winning two and drawing two.

Thompson has had much more playing time at Preston, playing the full 90 minutes in ten of the last 11 Championship fixtures. The only blotch on his record being the home game against West Brom for which he was suspended after picking up five yellow cards.

Elsewhere in the international break, England take on Croatia on Thursday, November 12, and then travel to Spain the following Sunday, November 15.

Thomas Tuchel’s Three Lions are second in Group C on nine points, winning three and losing one so far.
