It was an uneventful first half for both sides, with new signing Dom Lawson causing a nuisance in attack for City.

Rovers came close to scoring when Harry Leonard was played in on goal, and the forward skipped by a defender before having his chance saved.

The match was brought to life after the break as both sides made changes, with ex-City loanee Aidan Dowling replacing Eastham between the sticks for Rovers.

It would be City who broke the deadlock – the goal arriving five minutes after the restart, as Jake Connelly smartly rounded Dowling and slotted home.

Mike Sheron’s side responded well to going behind, and it took them just seven minutes for them to equalise.

Leonard’s long, direct ball was controlled well by Harrison Wood, and he went through on goal to fire into the far corner.

Lancaster responded well and looked threatening as Charlie Bailey saw his effort saved well by Dowling.

It would prove to be disappointing return to Giant Axe for Dowling as his mistake led to the Dolly Blues’ winning goal.

With just six minutes to go, Charlie Weston’s back pass was mis-controlled by Dowling, and the ball rolled into the net to send the City fans home happy.
