“It’s another difficult away trip”: Andy Preece’s warning for Chorley players ahead of FA Cup test
Chorley turn their attention to the FA Cup this weekend.
Andy Preece is fully aware of the challenge ahead as Chorley kick off their FA Cup campaign this weekend.
The Magpies travel to Warrington Rylands on Saturday for their second qualifying round tie (3pm).
They do so after last weekend’s 2-0 defeat at King’s Lynn Town, which made it back-to-back away losses after being beaten at Oxford City seven days earlier.
Saturday’s hosts, for their part, sit 10th in the NPL top flight and go into the game with three wins from their last four across all competitions.
Speaking after Saturday’s loss, Preece told club media: “It takes us away from the league.
“It’s a real tough one, going to Warrington Rylands. It’s another difficult away trip but we’d like another FA Cup run.
“A few of us are here from the previous one but we’ve got a real tough game to get through. Again, we’ll have to be really at it.
“I think we played them in the (FA) Trophy not so long ago (Chorley won 3-2 in December 2024) and that was a nip-and-tuck game, could have gone either way.
“They’ve got a really good manager in Renno (Neil Reynolds). I know he was at the game the other night (the 5-2 win against Darlington), so we could do with as much support as we can.
“It’s a tight little ground, they’ll be up for it and fancying their chances so any help we can get on the terraces will be much appreciated.”
Goals either side of half-time from Jesse Nwabueze and Reece Hall-Johnson saw Chorley defeated last weekend and left Preece feeling disappointed.
“We’ve got to be frustrated because there was nothing in the game at all,” he added.
“Once it’s 2-0, they’ll sit back a little bit more and we started to control the game without creating too many opportunities.
“Saying that, we’ve hit the bar, we’ve had one cleared off the line but it wasn’t like the Alamo.
“We had loads of possession but possession means nothing, it’s about creating opportunities.
“Credit to them, they did the job; many times we’ve done a job at home and made the most of those key moments. That’s what they did today.
“You can’t take anything away from them, but I do think it’s a bit of an opportunity lost because there was absolutely nothing in the game.”
