It’s fascinating to take a trip back in time to see what everything in the city looked like in those long-ago times.

17. Workers at Sharpe's Commercials were proud of their new product and a sense of community quickly built up. By 1951 things wre obviously going well enough that the management organised this day trip to Blackpool for the workers â a common treat for workers in northern factories at the time. The location is believed to be Gosford Street off Ribbleton Lane, Preston, in front of the Minicar Factory, with the row of houses being initially used as offices by Sharpe, but later demolished.

20. Mention of Middleton Towers prompted me to recall a photograph taken there. It is circa 1951, and I am the small one. Mum and Dad had saved up hard for a holiday, so on the first night at the Towers, they were delighted they got Full House on the Bingo! I believe at the time Bingo was actually known as Housey Housey. I was born in Mount Street Hospital and we lived in a building which was known as the Drill Hall. It was at the rear of the Museul of Lancashire in Stanley Street, but our entrance was on St Maryâs St and the prison was a Naval prison. Eddie Clegg, Preston
