Football on TV: How to get your fix this weekend

Football fans from across the United Kingdom are still coming to terms with the absence of the sport. 

While it’s unlikely to replace the feeling of a matchday, we’ve pulled together a handy TV guide on what shows are being shown across Saturday and Sunday, which could provide that much-needed football fix. 

BBC 1

12-1pm (Saturday): Football Focus with Dan Walker and Reece Parkinson

Features interviews with David Beckham, Kieran Trippier, Declan Rice, Gini Wijnaldum and Son Heung-min. 

3-3:30pm (Saturday): The 2018 World Cup Story

A look back at the World Cup in Russia, where England reached the semi-final only to lose in extra-time to Croatia. 

10:20-11pm (Saturday): Match of the Day

Gary Lineker, Ian Wright and Alan Shearer return to discuss their Top 10 Premier League strikers of all-time. Can Shearer pick himself? 

3-3:30pm (Sunday): World Cup 2019 Review

A look back at the Lionesses’ World Cup campaign in France last year as they reached the semi-finals of the competition. 

Sky Sports Premier League

10-12pm (Saturday): Soccer AM: The Best Bits 

Featuring all the best bits from Soccer AM since the beginning of the 2019/20 campaign, hosted by John Fendley and Jimmy Bullard. 

12-9pm (Saturday and Sunday): Premier League Football 

Sky have picked 19 (each day) Premier League games from the current season to stream across the day. All episodes are 30 minutes long.

12-6pm (Saturday and Sunday): EFL Football 

If you’re a fan of Nottingham Forest or Fulham you’ll love this as Sky are streaming six hours worth of highlights from 24 of Forest (Saturday) and Fulham (Sunday) games this season. 

6-6:15pm (Saturday): James Coppinger: Mental Health in Football 

The Doncaster Rovers opens up on his experience with mental health through his long career in professional football.

6:15-midnight (Saturday): UEFA Championship Qualifiers 

Eleven highlight shows looking back at Euro 2020 (2021) qualifiers from the likes of England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland and Wales. 

6-11pm (Sunday): UEFA Nations League Round-Up

Highlights from the augural UEFA Nations League with games from the group stage and knockout rounds.

11:30-12pm (Saturday): SPFL Highlights

The best goals from the 2019/20 Scottish Premiership season so far - including the likes of Celtic, Rangers, Hearts and Hibs. 

12-1:30pm (Saturday): Early Kick-Off

Jake Humphrey and guests bring the best action from BT’s early Premier League kick-offs this season in a 90-minute episode. 

1:30pm-4:30pm (Saturday): The Football Archive 

BT is showing the best goals from football in the 1970s, accompanied by a memorable soundtrack from that period. 

7-8pm (Saturday) and 7-9pm (Sunday): UEFA Champions League Classics 

Highlights from the past Champions League finals. 

8-9pm (Saturday) and 9-10am (Sunday): BT Sports Mic’d Up

BT Sport presenter Jake Humphery goes behind the scenes at MK Dons and Wycombe Wanderers with the help of respective manager Russell Martin and Gareth Ainsworth.

Replay from Chelsea and Arsenal’s meeting in Women’s Football this season is being shown. 

9-10pm (Sunday): Golazzo - The Football Italia Story

10-1pm (Sunday): Bayern Munich vs Borussia Dortmund
