Where in Lancashire you can remember the fallen

Remembrance Day events which are taking place right across the county will be especially poignant on the 100th anniversary of the First World War.

In Preston, the parade on Sunday morning will be led by the Lancastrian Brigade Corps of Drum along with the Brindle Band, followed by the 2nd Battalion Duke of Lancaster Regiment, the 3rd Medical Regiment and the 4th Battalion Duke of Lancaster Regiment.

At 10.20am, the parade departs from the Covered Market, down Lancaster Road, Church St, Cheapside and then onto the Flag Market

At 10.30am the service of remembrance begins and at 11am there will be two minutes silence.

In Chorley, on Sunday there will be a short service at St Laurence’s Parish Church at 9.30am, which residents are welcome to attend.

Following this, the unformed organisations and civic party will form a parade setting off from Union Street at 10.25am.

The Act of Remembrance will start at the war memorial in Astley Park at 10.45am with the two minutes silence at 11am followed by the wreath laying ceremony.

In South Ribble, Mayor Coun Graham Walton will lead a parade from the Civic Centre in Leyland to the war memorial to lay a wreath and observe a minute’s silence at 11am. Then, the procession will make its way to St Mary’s RC Church, in Broadfield Drive, for a special Service of Remembrance at 11.45am.

Residents wishing to march in the parade need to be at the Civic Centre for 10am.

The parade will travel up West Paddock, along Lancastergate, across Tesco car park to the far end towards the Leyland Cross, on to Church Road towards the memorial then return along St Andrews Way, Lancastergate and Broadfield Drive to St Mary’s Church.

In Garstang, the party will gather at 10am at the Community Centre car park. A service will be held in St Thomas’ Church at 10.30am followed by a wreath laying ceremony at the war memorial. Councillor Tom Balmain will attend the service and lay the council’s wreath.

Other events include Preesall, where the procession will assemble at the Lancaster Road car park at 1.45pm for a service at St Oswald’s Church at 2.30pm. The Deputy Mayor of Wyre, Councillor Terry Rogers, will attend the service and lay the council’s wreath.

In Bilsborrow, the party will assemble at 10.20am for a ceremony at the war memorial. Coun Valerie Wilson will attend the service and lay the council’s wreath.

The Mayor & Consort of West Lancashire will attend the Ormskirk Remembrance Sunday Parade and Services commencing at St Anne’s at 9.30am, followed by the Memorial in Coronation Park and then the main Service of Remembrance in Ormskirk Parish Church.

And a service will also be held at Hutton war memorial on Tuesday at 10.45am. Refreshments will be served in the village hall after the service.
