Unfortunately it has been delayed - reopening of Brinscall pool in Chorley gets pushed back

It is hoped to reopen in time for the Christmas holidays.

The reopening date for the long awaited Brinscall Baths has been pushed back due to an electricity supply issue.

A spokesperson for Chorley Council said: “We know many people are awaiting the reopening of Brinscall Baths, and we'd like to provide an update on the project.

“Unfortunately, the reopening has been delayed due to issues outside of our control. An electricity supply issue needs to be resolved by Electricity North West before we can move forward with commissioning the new air source heat pump system.

“The voltage of the electricity supply is higher than required and amendments now need to be carried out by Electricity North West before work can progress.

“The installation, testing and commissioning of this specialist equipment is a highly technical process and, due to the delay, we've missed our scheduled slot with the contractors who carry out this work. They are now fully booked for several weeks.”

Chorley Council had been successful in securing £1 million funding to ensure the swimming pool stays fit for the future, enabling work to take place to improve the efficiency of the 100-year-old building.

The pool shut in June for work to be carried out for a period of 16 weeks.

The spokesperson added: “We are working closely with all parties involved and remain hopeful that the baths will reopen in time for the school Christmas holidays.

“However, at this stage we cannot guarantee a reopening date due to the availability of external contractors.

“We apologise for the delay and thank residents, clubs and regular users for their patience and understanding while these important improvements are completed.”

Brinscall Swimming Pool is 22m in length and 8m wide, 0.9m depth at the shallow end and 2.1m depth at the deep end.
