Traffic building on M6 due to ‘emergency roadworks’ after ‘lorry strikes bridge’ between junctions 28 and 29 near Leyland

Motorists faced delays of up to 30 minutes on the M6 due to “emergency roadworks” near Leyland.

Two lanes were closed on the M6 southbound between junctions 28 (Leyland) and 29 (Bamber Bridge) at approximately 11am on Tuesday (August 16).

National Highways said the closure was due to “emergency roadworks” after lorry struck a bridge, resulting in 3.5 miles of congestion.

Drivers subsequently faced delays of around 30 minutes, with traffic also building in Clayton-le-Woods as motorists attempted to divert away from the area.
