All lanes reopen on M61 after crash between car and lorry causes fuel spillage near Chorley

A "minor collision" on the M61 northbound near Chorley resulted in delays due to an "extensive fuel spillage".

Traffic on the M61 northbound between junction 6 (Horwich) and 8 (Chorley) had been temporarily stopped due to a minor collision and spillage at around 12.25pm today (March 23).

The incident was reportedly between a car and a lorry.

Motorists experienced delays of up to 30 minutes and traffic was diverted away from the scene, according to Highways.

Police and ambulance crews attended the incident, but it is not yet known if any injuries were sustained in the collision.

A spokesperson for Highways said: "The M61 is now closed J6-8 including the services at Rivington (BoltonWest) due to an extensive fuel spillage, maintenance crews are enroute for assessment and clean up."

It has now been confirmed by Highways that all lanes are now back open following the collision.
