The one simple ingredient every student needs to use - according to Michelin-starred chef Lisa Goodwin-Allen
Lisa has been at the forefront of British cooking excellence for decades.
It’s almost time for Fresher’s Week at universities across the country.
There’s lots to think about, and good, wholesome food isn’t always highest on student’s agendas - perhaps owing to a lack of experience, money and enthusiasm.
But Northcote’s Michelin-starred Lisa Goodwin-Allen has come up with a few tips that might help when rustling up dishes in house shares or halls of residence kitchens.
She said: “Eating health is sometimes just prioritising, you know, batch cooking, getting things organised. Pasta bake or a spag bol, even, or a good stir fry or even a salad goes a long way. I think you’ve got to have a little bit of garlic in your stores - whether it’s powdered or fresh, it goes a long way. It gives great flavour.
“A good tip is to roast it within tin foil, whole, in the oven. It goes soft, super sweet, and you can keep it in your fridge for a long time.”

She was recognised for the significant contribution she has made to British cuisine and the hospitality sector. The Michelin starred chef leads the culinary team at Northcote and her exceptional skill and remarkable vision has been recognised with numerous industry awards. The proud Lancastrian has cooked for royalty, and she regularly appears on national TV cookery shows including MasterChef: The Professionals, Saturday Kitchen, and James Martin’s Saturday Morning.
She said: “It's an honour and I'm very delighted. Lancashire's such a special place so to be able to infuse and inspire the next generation and keep that growing is very, very special.”
