Barrica Wines’ Jane Cuthbertson will run a number of mini wine schools throughout the event on Saturday and Sunday July 23 and 24 to share her knowledge, whilst colleague Oliver Johnston will host a mini beer school on Saturday afternoon.

Both are open to anyone over the age of 18 and there’s no need to book places.

Jane said: “Everything we do at Barrica is very informal - I’m all for getting rid of the snobbery that’s often associated with the wine world. Our mini wine and beer schools aim to make the whole thing more accessible to people and to encourage them to feel comfortable about trying something new. We’ll be giving a snapshot of a number of grape varieties, as well as different types of beer.”

Also on the food and drink festival stage will be Andrea Mellon from Chorley’s Duk Deli. Self-taught chef and local restaurateur Andrea will demonstrate a number of her favourite tapas style dishes live on stage - with delicious tasters available afterwards.

Jane Cuthbertson will follow up Andrea’s cooking demonstrations with short talks on food and wine pairings. She will offer her tips on the best wines to drink with certain foods to complement one another.

Throughout the food hall there will be plenty of food tasters from the resident baker, butcher, cake makers, delicatessen, sweet shop, coffee and tea specialist, clean eating expert, and chocolatiers.

Michelle Scott, Botany Bay’s marketing manager, said: “There are so many wonderful flavours on offer in our food hall. We’re proud that Botany Bay is home to a number of small, artisan producers who use food and ingredients sourced in their part of Lancashire to make their produce. We’ve got everything from sweet treats to protein packed nutritious eats - as well something for the coffee and tea lovers.

“Entry is free and we’ve got free parking too.”

There is plenty of fun for families, with face painting, cupcake and biscuit decorating, and stilt-walking chefs.

On Sunday, Botany Bay will host the Go Bananas Food Fest Party, with CBeebies Katy Ashworth, who stars in I Can Cook, and children’s musician Mr Yipadee. Tickets for the party are £4.95 per person and must be booked in advance at http://www.botanybay.co.uk/FoodFestParty.

The festival runs from 9.30am until 5.30pm on Saturday and Sunday July 23 and 24.
