Emma Russ from Galloway’s, said: “The work between both ourselves and Lancashire Police has been inspiring to watch over recent years and I was really proud to watch our services staff, chief executive and representatives from the Police receive the award.”

Following a series of calls from a local man living with sight loss who had become socially isolated, the vulnerable person’s team based at Lancashire Police headquarters recognised there was a need for awareness and training amongst front line staff, PCSO’s and call handlers.

Galloway’s have supported the constabulary with visual awareness training to help officers better understand those living with sight loss in the community.

The charity has also received a grant from Lancashire Police to help produce important safety and crime information in an audible format so people with sight loss can access vital information from the police.

James Coulton, audio services manager at Galloway’s added: “The Partnership work has created a host of positive activity to support local blind and partially sighted people in the South Ribble Community and wider.

“Our aim at Galloway’s is to ensure that nobody has to face sight loss alone or without the right support in our community, and it’s partnerships and support like this that enable us to do just that.

“I was really proud to receive the award on behalf of Galloway’s and hope that our relationship with the local police force continues to benefit local visually impaired people.”
