Tesco in Chorley was evacuated following the blackout, with reports that trolleys were left abandoned in the aisles.

The lights went out at around 11.10am on Saturday and shoppers were asked by staff to leave their good and exit the store.

“Everything is off,” one shopper said.

“The lights just went out and the staff came around saying we needed to evacuate the store.

People have been told it’ll be at least an hour before everything is back on again.

“It’s slightly chaotic and there’s a lot of traffic as people are trying to get out of the car park.”

The power cut is also understood to have hit areas of Leyland.

Electricity North West says around 300 customers are currently without power.

A spokesman said: “We currently have around 300 customers off supply in the Chorley area.

“This is due to an underground cable fault.

“Both business and domestic customers have been affected.

Engineers are en-route and we hope to have the supplies restored shortly.

“We would like to apologise to customers for any inconvenience caused.”

Engineers were able to restore power to all properties in Chorley by early on Saturday afternoon.
