Buildings for sale as Lancashire makes cuts

Council leader Jennifer Mein has signed off premises as “surplus to requirements” in Bamber Bridge, Burnley, Rawtenstall and Accrington, but has been tight-lipped on which buildings they are.

When asked by the Evening Post for details, a spokesman said information was restricted to avoid vandalism problems.

It was later confirmed that the Bamber Bridge property was 1-15 Carr Street, a former South Ribble and Chorley Community Support Team social services area office, which is now listed for sale on the County Council’s own website.

County Councillor Jennifer Mein, leader of Lancashire County Council, said: “These are all small buildings and pieces of land that have not been used for some time.

“We have decided to sell them to save money and generate income to invest in services. The small building close to Bamber Bridge town centre was used as an office by the county council.”

The Carr Street building is a two-storey detached office with space for 10 vehicles.

It will be put under auction on July 14 at Manchester City Football Club. The guide price is not known.

In 2012, the Evening Post revealed that LCC was looking to sell off dozens of properties in light of Government-imposed cuts of more than £300m over the next four years.

Keynote properties in the portfolio included the former Park Hotel and Lancashire Business Park in Leyland which was severely damaged by fire in 2011.
