Police issue update after closing M55 in both directions to help woman in her 20s
The motorway was closed in both directions yesterday afternoon.
Police have issued an update after the M55 in Lancashire was closed in both directions yesterday afternoon due to a concern for welfare.

Lancashire Police closed the westbound carriageway of the M55 between Junction 3 (Wesham) and Junction 4 (Blackpool) after 2.30pm yesterday.

Traffic was able to travel as far as Junction 3, but all three lanes were closed beyond that point.
Diversions were also put in place.
At 6.20pm, Lancashire Police reopened the westbound carriageway and thanked motorists for their patience.
A Lancashire Police update said: “We let you know earlier that the M55 had closed at Junction 4 due to a concern for safety.
“We can now let you know that the road is open for you to travel.
“Thank you again for your patience, and drive safely on your onward journeys.”

Providing a fresh update this morning, a spokesperson for the police said: “The incident was safely resolved around 5.35pm and the motorway was reopened shortly after that.
“A woman in her 20s was taken to a place of safety.”
