M55 closure live: Police reopen M55 following afternoon closure due to 'a concern for safety'

The M55 has reopened earlier than predicted.

Lancashire Police closed the westbound carriageway of the M55 between Junction 3 (Wesham) and Junction 4 (Blackpool) earlier this afternoon (June 7) due to a “concern for safety”.

Traffic was able to travel as far as Junction 3, but all three lanes were closed beyond that point.

Diversions were also put in place.

At 6.20pm, Lancashire Police reopened the westbound carriageway and thanked motorists for their patience.

A Lancashire Police update said: “We let you know earlier that the M55 had closed at Junction 4 due to a concern for safety.

“We can now let you know that the road is open for you to travel.

“Thank you again for your patience, and drive safely on your onward journeys.”
