The makers of this new Preston version of the world’s most famous board game are proudly describing the new game as “a love letter to Preston”.

They were going to launch the game at 10am on Thursday, the time the game hits the shops, in the city itself but now will do so in Preston, Hertfordshire live on Facebook, 15 minutes before the game is available to buy from retailers.

Tourist and civic leaders were quick to praise the new game.

Mark Whittle, Preston BID manager, said: “Preston is fortunate to be home to many outstanding landmarks, businesses and charities.

“So It’s only fitting that they are now immortalised on the city’s very own version of Monopoly.

“Monopoly conjures up lots of great memories for so many people, who will now get the chance to learn a little more about proud Preston and its assets, whilst enjoying - what we are sure - will be the perfect Christmas gift.”

The new board is being produced by Winning Moves UK, under official license from the MONOPOLY brand, owned by Hasbro.

George Shrimpton, custom games executive at Winning Moves UK, says: “The game will feature the great and good of the city – and is in effect A Love Letter to Preston!

“We have been wonderfully spoilt for choice putting the game together and would like to thank everyone who sent in suggestions when we went through a public consultation process.”

Along with the squares like Mayfair and Park Lane becoming exclusively Preston addresses, very many of the Chance and Community Chest cards will be Preston themed too.

One customised card boldly anticipates – predicts even – the celebration of a re-opening of Preston Guild Hall.

The card says: ‘You win VIP tickets to the grand reopening of Preston Guild Hall. Collect M50.’
