Preston dad Peter Sanderson to run 100km for daughter Ida after year of stage 4 cancer treatment
“Running 100km is going to hurt, but it’s nothing compared with what Ida and so many other young people with cancer have to go through.”
A Preston dad is preparing to run 100km in a single day to raise money for two charities that supported his daughter after she was diagnosed with stage four cancer.
Peter Sanderson will take on the ultra marathon challenge on Saturday (September 5), raising funds for Teenage Cancer Trust and Little Lady Locks in honour of his daughter, Ida.
Twelve months ago, Ida was diagnosed with stage four cancer, beginning an incredibly difficult year of treatment, hospital appointments and uncertainty for the whole family.

After everything she has been through, Ida is now doing well, and her family are looking forward with hope after what has been an exceptionally tough year.
Throughout Ida’s treatment, Teenage Cancer Trust and Little Lady Locks provided support to her and the wider family.
Dad Peter is now taking on the gruelling 100km challenge as a way of thanking the charities and helping them continue to support other young people and families facing cancer.

He said: “Over the last year I’ve watched Ida go through things no young person should ever have to face, and she has shown more courage and strength than I can put into words.
“There have been some incredibly difficult days, but she has kept going, and seeing how well she is doing now makes us unbelievably proud.
“Teenage Cancer Trust and Little Lady Locks have been there for Ida and for us as a family when we really needed them.

“Running 100km is going to hurt, but it is nothing compared with what Ida and so many other young people with cancer have to go through.
“This is my way of saying thank you, celebrating Ida and everything she has overcome, and hopefully raising as much money as possible so these charities can be there for the next family that needs them.”

The challenge takes place during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, which is marked throughout September and aims to raise awareness of cancers affecting children and young people.
Peter hopes the run will not only raise funds, but also shine a light on the support available to young people and their families following a cancer diagnosis.
