This time last year few of us could have predicted what would become one of the toughest years in Lancashire' s history.
People across the region have experienced unprecedented restrictions on our communities, the loss of loved ones, as well as heartwarming moments of true kindness and support.
Here are just some of the moments that have informed and touched us this year:
1. January - 100 jobs created in Leyland
German company Dr Oetker announced plans to double production of its frozen Chicago Town and Ristorante brands by expanding its plant at Leyland - with the promise of more than 100 new jobs. And even though council officers admitted the development was bound to have an impact on residents living nearby, the project has been recommended for approval, chiefly because of the economic benefits it will bring to the area.
2. January - Tragedy as two sisters found dead
Two sisters from Preston were found dead following a suspected gas leak in Pakistan. Maria, 24, and Nadia Rehman, 17, were found collapsed on the floor of a hotel bathroom during a family trip to Gujrat to mark the anniversary of their grandfather's funeral.
3. February - Market car park demolished
Land for a flagship cinema and restaurant scheme at Preston’s Harris Quarter was ready for development following the demolition of the old Market Hall car park. The news came ahead of a planning submission in the spring of 2020 which, if successful, would see the expansion of the flagship scheme to include a 16-lane bowling alley.
4. February - Fives bar goes on the market for £1.25m
Preston business tycoon Simon Rigby put the former Fives bar up for sale for £1.25 million. The Guildhall Street venue closed its doors for good on New Years' Eve 2018.
