'He would have been 16' - heartbroken mum of Leyland boy struck by train shares funeral route through town
Jamie’s funeral will take place on what would have been his 16th birthday...
A Leyland mum whose 15-year-old son was tragically killed on the railway says she’s ‘eternally grateful’ to those who helped search for her boy after he went missing last month.

Jamie Winstanley, who was autistic and non-verbal, was reported missing on May 16 after he failed to return home from his daily walk "to build up his confidence". His frantic mum Claire Jackson shared an appeal on Facebook and members of the community came together to help search for her son.
Sadly, Jamie was discovered on the railway between Farington Moss and Lostock Hall at around 5.15pm.
Mum Claire has now shared details of Jamie’s funeral and the route the family will take as they make their way to Charnock Richard Crematorium on Friday (June 5), on what would have been Jamie’s 16th birthday.

‘Thank you from the bottom of our hearts’
In a heartbreaking update, Claire said she is ‘eternally grateful’ to those who helped search for her boy. She has also invited the community to pay their respects along the route to his service at Charnock Richard.
Claire said: “I just wanted to say how eternally grateful we are for everyone who helped look for our Jamie, and so proud of the community in a time of need.
“Jamie’s funeral is this Friday (June 5). We will leave from the Croston Meadows estate at 12pm, going right through Leyland Lane onto Dawber’s Lane and then Wigan Road up to the Charnock Richard Crematorium, if anyone wants to pay their respects as we pass by. The same day is also his 16th birthday.
“He loved his birthdays and Christmas. If you’re having a takeout on that day, try a 14” margherita from Pizza Roma - his absolute favourite. He could eat one in about 10 seconds, he’d put Beard Meats Food to shame!

Claire added: “If anyone would like to make a donation to Autism Action please view N & K Harvey funerals or the much loved website under Jamie Winstanley.
“Once again, thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”
