Galliford Try Partnerships, WYG and Great Places Housing Group want to build 78 homes on land north of Methuen Drive and at Olive Farm, with 39 for shared ownership or to rent.

They claim the development would meet local housing needs, but nearby residents disagree.

Stephen and Rosalyn Fletcher of Methuen Drive have written to South Ribble Council claiming “the local community cannot support the number of additional residents that this will bring.”

They add: “The local school is already over-subscribed, the doctors have limited space, minimal public transport exists and there are inadequate shopping facilities and amenities.”

Concerns have also been raised that Methuen Drive - intended as the primary access - is not adequate for increased traffic. Joseph and Maureen Fare said cars park on the road and the junction with Hoghton Lane “has completely broken up”. They add housing association homes are not being inkeeping. Paula Gillibrand of Manor Close said wildlife could be affected.

The applicants said impact on species would be “negligible”, the layout designed to avoid overshadowing and points would be created to give views over Green Belt land.

A report adds: “(This) will provide attractive housing of mixed tenure and with the appropriate design to fulfil the expectations and requirements of a range of new households in the South Ribble area.”

A transport report states: “(There are) no known accident problems in the area that would be compounded by current proposals.”
