Meet father of four Drew the peacock who was found roaming - in a council estate.

The proud peacock arrived at Turbary Woods in mid 2024 after he randomly appeared roaming a council estate in Preston much to the surprise and delight of many onlookers.

News spread to try and reunite him with his owner, but sadly nobody came to collect him.
This is especially odd because Drew is a very special bird. He is what peafowl keepers call a Spalding peafowl, which are a hybrid between two different species of peafowl, these being the Indian blue peafowl (Pavo cristatus) and the Javan green peafowl (Pavo muticus).

A spokesperson for Turbary Woods said: “Drew lived with us for a handful of years with some grey crowned crane (Balearica regulorum) until we moved our cranes on in which he lived solitarily until July 2025 where we were able to secure him a peahen who we named Sauce as she was acquired from Worcestershire.
“Then in March of this year we acquired a second peahen who we named Ketchup as a parody of sauce.
“Both peahens are simply Indian blue peafowl (Pavo cristatus) and are not hybrids.Following the introduction of the peahens we are happy to report that last week we were blessed with 4 peachicks who have yet to be named.
“We haven't named them yet incase they don't do very well. Don't name your peachicks before they're peafowl.”
