Man detained after car crashes

A man was still in police custody in Preston today following an incident involving a car reported as stolen last night.

Lancashire Police were alerted after a report that a blue Peugeot 307 had been stolen after an alleged robbery in the city’s Ribbleton area.

A delivery driver complained of being assaulted while outside his car, on Burholme Road and told police his assailant then drove off in the vehicle.

Police were called at 8.07pm.

Some 30 minutes later stinger patrols were in pursuit of the car when the vehicle turned onto Ribbleton Avenue and crashed into a wall.

A man was detained at the scene and is helping police with inquiries.
