Earlier this year, Greene King announced a new pub estate strategy to set the business up “to deliver sustainable and profitable growth for the future”. As part of the new estate strategy, Greene King identified around 300 pubs that they claim would be better served under different models. Greene King said roughly half of the pubs will be converted to leased and tenanted or franchise venues within Greene King’s Pub Partners estate, with the other half evaluated for a potential sale over the medium-term.

A spokesperson for Greene King said: “As part of our pub estate strategy to set us up to deliver sustainable and profitable growth for the future, we are now exploring all options available to us regarding the future of the Spread Eagle, including a potential sale. The pub remains open and trading as usual.”
