Key work underway improving two popular parks near you - here's what's happening

Park users are warned there could be some disruption while work is underway.

Work to improve parks in Chorley and South Ribble is underway.

Paradise Park, Leyland

South Ribble Borough Council (SRBC) confirmed that footpath and improvement works began last week in Paradise Park, marking the start of a programme to upgrade footpaths and surrounding areas.

The works are expected to take approximately 12 weeks to complete and will enhance accessibility, safety, and the overall visitor experience for park users. The scheme includes the resurfacing and widening of existing footpaths, improved drainage to reduce standing water, and general enhancements to the landscape to create a more welcoming and user-friendly environment.

Additional footpaths are also being constructed to connect Paradise Park with the new Centurion Village development. These links will be opened once the developers work on the Test Track side of the boundary are complete.

Yarrow Valley Country Park

Chorley Borough Council said ‘great progress’ is being made on improvements at Plock Wood in Yarrow Valley Country Park. Already, dangerous trees near paths and roads have been removed, there have been a thinning of shelter belts, opening up of entrances to make them more welcoming and removal of invasive rhododendrons.

Landscape works have been underway since March. The council is uprading the site with:

• Improved paths and steps

• New and refurbished bridges and boardwalks

• New fencing, gates, and fingerposts

• Additional benches and improved entrance signage.

To keep users safe, some paths have been closed at times. Work is on track to be completed by the end of June, with further habitat improvements planned over the coming years to boost biodiversity in the woodland.
