'Unacceptable risk' - Plan to fell diseased trees in Chorley beauty spot close to road and children's nursery

The four trees overhang a road and are close to a children’s nursery.

Trees in a Chorley conservation area deemed to pose an ‘unacceptable risk to public safety’ could soon be felled.

Ingham’s Tree Services has applied to Chorley Borough Council (CBC) to remove two ash trees, an oak and a sycamore from within the White Coppice Conservation Area at Northwood, White Coppice, Anglezarke.

Both the ash trees are said to be suffering from ash dieback, the oak has a dead crown, and the sycamore is exhibiting crown dieback and ‘poor structural form’.

A statement to the council says: “All four trees are situated in a high-target area, directly overhanging a public road and within close vicinity of a children’s nursery. Due to the defects and diseases identified, the trees present an elevated and unacceptable risk to public safety. Removal is considered the most appropriate management option to prevent potential injury, property damage, or obstruction to the highway.”

A decision will be made in coming weeks by CBC.
