“I didn’t want to jump out of a plane, I’d rather cut my hair off' - Leyland woman's challenge for beloved Dad

Joanne Stevenson will lose her crowing glory - for a very special reason.

A Leyland woman is braving the shave - in memory of her beloved dad.

Joanne Stevenson will have all her hair shaved off on May 24 at the Gables pub in Hough Lane, Leyland, to raise money for St Catherine’s Hospice - where Leyland Motors worker Ian Briggs was cared for in the last 22 days of his life.

The 55-year-old NHS worker said: “The standard of care my dad received at St Catherine’s was second for none. And even for the family, they couldn’t do enough, there was so much support.

“I found it quite sad that they only receive 33 per cent of their funding from the Government, and rely on a lot of fundraising, so I decided I wanted to help.

“I didn’t want to jump out of a plane, I’d rather cut my hair off, so that’s what I’m doing.”

She added: “My hair is quite short anyway, but for a woman to have it all shaved off is quite drastic, and it’s my crowning glory. People have said they’ll pay me not to have it done, but I think I’ll feel liberated when it’s done. You spend so much time on your hair as a woman - plus, it’ll be it’s natural colour in I don’t know how long!”

Joanne will be supported at the event, running from 4pm, by friends and family, and hopes to raise £1,500 for the hospice.
