Fruit flies are small, black fast-reproducing flies that are commonly found in kitchens and are attracted to overripe fruit, sugary liquids, trash, and drains.

Their lifespan is short, but their rapid life cycle allows them to develop from egg to adult in just one week under ideal conditions.

They often enter homes through open doors and windows or by hitching a ride on produce and quickly breed in decaying organic matter.

How do you get rid of them?

While fruit flies don’t bite, they can contaminate food and surfaces after breeding in garbage or fermenting materials.

To help get rid of fruit flies, remove food sources, clean drains and trash bins, and use sticky traps to reduce populations.

You can also make fruit fly traps with items you have at home.

They are attracted to fruit juice, wine, crushed fruit pulp, or apple cider vinegar.

Place one of those ingredients at the bottom of a jar.

Make a paper funnel that fits into the top of the jar.

The flies will go in, but the funnel will prevent them from flying out.
