A fire on a bus sparked an emergency call out in Lostock Hall this afternoon, say fire services.

Two crews from Penwortham and Leyland responded to a 999 call when the fire started in the engine compartment.

The bus, which is understood to have had two passengers on board, was travelling along Todd Lane at around 12.15pm on May 24 at the time of the incident.

A spokesman for Lancashire Fire and Rescue said: "We attended a fire on a bus involving the engine compartment.

"Two passengers made their way off the bus unassisted.

"The fire was extinguished using a hosereel jet.

"Traffic was diverted around the bus while the incident was dealt with."
